“Nothing is more difficult and nothing requires more character than to find oneself in open opposition to one’s time and to say loudly: NO!“ Kurt Tucholsky

All of us come across situations now and again that require what in German is known as “civil courage”. Many people want to help, but they don’t know how. We often don’t have the necessary knowledge and necessary competence in order to act appropriately and react in a split second when we encounter emergencies.

During this interactive training, the organisation “Zivilcourage für ALLE e.V.” will tell us about lots of different ways of how to react in order to be able to intervene competently when our help is required. This awareness training is intended to provide answers to the following questions: What does civil courage mean to me? What can an act of civil courage specifically look like? And how can I help efficiently without putting myself at risk?

Besides basic knowledge, our speaker is also going to talk about the psychological background of civil courage. The participants will work out appropriate behaviour during interactive practice sessions, which will help them to show civil courage in typical emergencies without putting themselves at risk.

The organisation “Zivilcourage für ALLE” provides information on showing civil courage in our actions and reactions. The organisation’s training is based on the workshop “Kleine Schritte statt Heldentaten” [Eng: small steps instead of heroic deeds], which was developed by social psychologists Prof. Veronika Brandstätter and Prof. Dieter Frey at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU).
