An exiting mix of city history, social history, special architecture and cool places – how the Westend changed from a working-class area to hip living quarters.

Affordable cooperative flats and the striking brick building of the Augustiner brewery are situated right beside hip boutiques, vegan breakfast cafés and the best spot for having a beer in the evenings while taking in the romance of the city – the Hackerbrücke.

From the former district of the railway workers, workmen and brewers, the Westend turned into a migrant neighbourhood. In the 19th century, lots of people from various regions in Germany came here looking for work. Many Jewish families followed during the prince regent era, and since 1955 many workers from Greece, Spain, former Yugoslavia and Turkey. And last, the working nomads, IT technicians and management consultants moved into the stylish glass palaces, which were constructed on the former fair grounds. Join us on a tour to learn more about this cool Munich district.
